Film Career began in 1986, when James attended Scottsdale Community College. While taking several Music oriented classes, he met many filmmakers working on their student films for the college film festival.
And the scoring of short films started.

The feeling surrounding the film festival was extremely exciting. And the dream of making his own films started. In 1993, James met Laurel Schulze, a free-lance writer. The two collaborated on several screenplays, including a spec-script (Freeloader) for the X-Files series. In 1997, James moved to Washington State. He and Laurel married. The script writing continued, although nothing was published. In 1999, James began working behind the camera on 2 ambitious independent projects, Beat Angel and Counting Days.

In 2000, James started production on Crazy, a 23 minute short about the life of an asylum patient. This film was awarded Best Narrative Short at the Projections Film Festival, and Gold Special Jury, Best Short at the Worldfest-Houston International Festival. 

In 2006, Cat's Play (a 20 minute "Twilight Zone" styled short) was completed. It premiered at the Queens International Film Festival in November.
